Hi.

I am a fashion and lifestyle blogger and love the crazy cycle of fashion. I started blogging because I love writing, sharing my ideas, and connecting with people. I'm an aspiring business professional and love working with people on projects, learning about their lives, careers, and creating beauty.

Lion Heart Girl

There's a certain stigma that comes along with purchasing products from developing countries. A stigma that their products couldn't possibly meet up with our 1st-world standards... I am pleased to share you all that Lion Heart Girl's artisans blow that stigma out of the water. These beautiful hand-crafted goods are made with all the deliberate thought and mastery you could ever hope for.

Lion Heart Girl's mission is to empower and employ local Ecuadorian artisans who create goods using traditional weaving, stitching, and sewing practices. These talented artisans create these goods from inside their communities and in their homes. I just fell in love with this company for what they stand for. I love supporting companies with a mission to address social and economical issues on a global level. There's no better feeling than knowing that your purchases and money is going back to the people who need it the most. I could talk about Lion Heart Girl's artisan collection all day but I think the photos will do more justice.

The Story Of Artisan Rafael

Rafael is a weaver from the village of El Cerrotal Ecuador. His method of weaving stems back many generations. Now, one of very few weavers in Ecuador that continues to use traditional weaving methods, he enlightens me on the “proper” way to weave which consists of the use of specially designed sticks to create many different textiles. Throughout the course of history this method of weaving has been replaced by initially hand-looms, then machines.

Paying a visit to Rafael in his household is an experience within itself. Finding his house in the first place is no simple task. At the ripe age of 72 he does not understand the need for a cellphone; not to mention the lack of addresses within the village, and the predominance of Kichwa (native tongue). However, after asking a few passerby, one will stumble upon a humble cement brick house where you can most likely find Rafael weaving on the dirt floor of his abode.

Lion Heart Girl loves working with this charming “young” man. All of his woven materials are made with love and contribute immensely to the beauty of the final product. Just becoming aware of the time and effort it takes to create each part of our products is a humbling reality. We love to support artisans like Rafael, and love to show the world who creates each item and the methods in which they are produced.
